Otolaryngology is a medical specialty that deals with the disorders prevailing in the ear, nose, and throat (ENT) region and all the related areas, including that of the head and neck. Otolaryngologists diagnose, manage, and treat ENT disorders, including the problems in the sinuses, voice box (larynx), and other related parts.

The most common ear problems treated by otolaryngologists are hearing loss, ear infections, balance disorders, ear noise (tinnitus), nerve pain, and facial and cranial nerve disorders.

ENT specialists are also trained in nasal cavity and sinus treatments, including diagnosis and treatment of allergies, sinusitis, smell disorders, polyps, and nasal obstruction due to a deviated septum.
